JONESBORO, Ark. -
Coming off a successful showing at Kansas two weeks ago, the UALR tennis team
returns to action this weekend (Nov. 2-4) at the Arkansas State Fall
Invitational in Jonesboro, Ark.
Besides host Arkansas State, Central Arkansas, Murray State,
Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Southern Illinois, Southeast Missouri State and UT Martin
will also be competing.
"This is going to be a very good tournament for us," Trojan
head coach Abby Wilson explained. "We are playing teams that we are extremely
competitive with and hopefully our hard training will pay off in match wins."
At the second KU Fall Invite (Oct. 19-20), sophomore Michaela McShane and freshman Christel Amsallem both went 2-0 to tie
for top honors in the Singles D Draw. Senior Veronique Luksich claimed runner-up honors in Singles Draw B while
classmate Yana Kakovkina won her final two matches at Singles Draw C to claim
the consolation bracket.
Junior Viktoriya Plyuta lost
in her first two matches in Singles Draw A before claiming seventh-place with a
4-6, 6-1, 10-3 win over Lea Kozulic of Drake.
"I can see a great deal of improvement with our four
returning players. They seem much more confident and are always ready to
compete," Wilson added.
After play wraps up at ASU, it will be the Trojans last
competition until Jan. 19-20, 2013 when they travel to Oklahoma to battle Oral
Roberts and Tulsa.
