JONESBORO, Ark. -
Seniors Veronique Luksich and Yana Kakovkina with freshman Christel Amsallem all won their matches
while sophomore Michaela McShane took
third in her singles flight on Saturday (Nov. 3) at the Arkansas State Fall
Invitational.
Amsallem blanked Erin Patton of Murray State 6-0, 6-0 while Kakovkina
won 6-2, 6-0 against Nikole Novikova of Southeast Missouri State in her first
singles match of the weekend in Flight 3. Luksich claimed her second-straight
three-set triumph by beating Natasha Tomishima of Southern Illinois in Singles
Flight 2 6-4, 5-7, 6-2.
McShane finishes her single play on the weekend with a 6-3,
6-1 loss to Jess Heeps-Eriksen of Arkansas State. With a bye in the
championship bracket consolation match, McShane finishes third in Singles
Flight 5. Junior Viktoriya Plyuta
will play for fifth on Sunday after receiving a bye into the consolation
bracket finals.
In doubles play, Kakovkina teamed up with Southern Illinois'
Abby Plecki and went 2-0 on the day with an 8-5 and 8-3 win. Undefeated on the
weekend, the duo plays for a doubles title in Flight 5. Plyuta and Amsallem
dropped a pair of decisions 8-4 and 8-2 and finishes the weekend 1-3 at Doubles
Flight 3. McShane split on the day, winning 8-3 over Megan Blue and Ashley
Canty of Murray State before an 8-3 loss to Ioana Teu and Janie Nowland of
Arkansas State.
UALR returns to action tomorrow with four singles matches
and two doubles contests in the final day of the Arkansas State Fall Tennis
Invitational.
