LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -
The Trojans conclude their road trip with a quartet of matches in the
Cornhusker State. UALR (7-2) takes on Creighton (1-3) on Tuesday (Feb. 19)
before battling Omaha (2-0) on Wednesday. Both matches start at noon.
After the matches in Omaha, UALR travels to Lincoln for a pair
of contests against nationally-ranked foes. The Trojans take on 15th-ranked
Nebraska (9-1) Friday (Feb. 22) at 4 p.m. before concluding the weekend on
Saturday against 64th-ranked Wyoming (2-2) at 11 a.m.
For the Trojans on the season, senior Veronique Luksich leads the way with an 8-1 singles record,
including a seven-match winning streak, playing in the top spot. Luksich has only lost four sets all season
and her only loss is to 64th ranked Samantha Vickers of Tulsa (Jan.
20). Freshman Kamilla Galieva is
also 8-1 and on a seven-match winning streak. In fact, Galieva has not lost a
set since losing to Belen Rivera of Tulsa at sixth singles, 6-2, 6-3.
In doubles action, Galieva and sophomore Dané Vorster have teamed up in the last
five matches and have not lost. Galieva
and Vorster first played together against UA-Fort Smith at second doubles and
won 8-2. The duo claimed an 8-7 (5) win over Candela Munoz Giron and Rosaura
Ramirez-Vega of Troy (Feb. 2) in the third slot.
Previewing UALR's opposition, Creighton's only wins this
season came on a 5-2 decision over North Dakota. Jennie Hartjes leads the Blue
Jays having won her last two singles matches.
Last year in Omaha, UALR claimed a 5-2 victory over CU. The
Blue Jays took the doubles point before UALR stormed back to take 5-of-6
singles matches. Viktoriya Plyuta took
a pair of sets 6-2 over Hartjes at first singles. At second singles, Luksich
claimed a 6-1, 6-4 win. Yana Kakovkina defeated
Analese Snyder at third singles 6-2, 6-4.

The Mavericks are only playing their third match of the
season. Omaha swept Nebraska Wesleyan 7-0 before pulling out a 4-3 win over
North Dakota Friday (Feb. 15). Molly Matricardi at second singles, Emily
Peirson at fourth singles and Jacqueline Baude at the fifth spot are all 2-0 on
the season.
Omaha is 5-1 as a team in doubles play with Tiffany Hottman
and Matricardi undefeated in two matches at second doubles.
Last season, UALR blanked Omaha in losing only one set the
entire match. Plyuta overcame a 7-5 loss in the first set before rebounding for
a 6-3, 10-6 win over Alex Tran at first singles.

After a day off, UALR with battle 15th-ranked
Nebraska on Friday (Feb. 22). NU's only loss came to 10th-ranked
Miami on the first day (Feb. 8) of the prestigious IA National Team Indoor
Championships. Leading the way for the Cornhuskers is 16th-ranked
Mary Weatherholt, who is 8-0 on the season and has only dropped one set. Her
wins include a 6-2, 7-5 win over then-16th ranked Ema Burgic of
Baylor and a 6-4, 6-3 triumph over 41st-ranked Kelsey Dieters of
Ohio State.
The final match of the eight-day road trip is 64th-ranked
Wyoming Saturday (Feb. 23). The Cowgirls are 2-2 with losses to the third and 32nd-ranked
teams in Duke and Washington State, respectively. Wyoming has a 7-0 win over
Eastern Washington and a 4-1 victory against the College of Charleston.
Christa Gecheva leads the Cowgirls with an 11-3 record while
Veronica Popovici is 9-3 in singles action.
After the matches against Nebraska and Wyoming, UALR takes a
week break before returning to action against Louisiana Tech at the Pleasant
Valley Country Club in Little Rock on March 2. Match time is set for 2 p.m.
