LINCOLN, Neb. –
UALR tennis (9-4) closed out its road trip with a 5-2 loss to the Cowgirls of
Wyoming (4-2) Saturday afternoon (Feb. 23) in Lincoln, Neb.
Leading the Trojans was senior Yana Kakovkina’s (7-4) win at second singles over Simona Synkova, 6-4,
6-4. Junior Viktoriya Plyuta (6-6) came
out on top over Wyoming’s Sasa Nemcova 7-6 (9), 3-6, 10-6 at fourth singles.
The Cowgirls began the match with a sweep in doubles action.
Kakovkina and Plyuta (5-6) fell to Veronica Popovici and Synkova at first doubles
8-4. Senior Veronique Luksich and
sophomore Michaela McShane (6-4) fell to
Alexandra Kovacs and Nemcova at second doubles, 8-1. Sophomore Dané Vorster and freshman Kamilla Galieva (6-2) lost at third doubles,
8-4, to Jessica Parizher and Silviya Zhelyazkova.
In other matches, Luksich (8-4) fell to Popovici at first singles
6-4, 6-0. Kovacs edged Galieva (10-3) at third singles 6-1, 6-3. Parizher beat Vorster
(6-7) 6-0, 6-1 at fifth singles. Finally, McShane (7-3) lost to Christa Gecheva at sixth
singles, 6-1, 6-4.
UALR returns home to take on Louisiana Tech next Saturday
(March 2). Match time at the Pleasant Valley Country Club is set for 2 p.m.
