LITTLE ROCK - The UALR tennis team (9-4)
returns home to take on Louisiana Tech Saturday (March 2) at Pleasant Valley
Country Club at 2 p.m.
In their
last match, the Trojans fell to No. 64 Wyoming, 5-2. Senior Yana Kakovkina had a 6-4, 6-4 win over Simona
Synkova at second singles. Junior Viktoriya
Plyuta defeated Sasa Nemcova 7-6(9), 3-6, 10-6 at fourth singles.
For the
season, freshman Kamilla Galieva
leads the way with a 10-3 record in singles action. Senior Veronique Luksich is 8-4 at first singles. The duo of Galieva and
sophomore Dané Vorster is 6-2 in
doubles play.
Louisiana
Tech will enter the match with a record of 1-3 after a recent 4-3 loss to
Nicholls State. In singles play, Vivian ten Dolle will lead the Bulldogs 3-1.
Mancela Chiacchio and Dolle also have a 3-1 lead in doubles.
Last year,
the Bulldogs defeated the Trojans 6-1 in Ruston, La. Plyuta won 6-4, 7-5 against Laura Fernandez at first singles. La Tech finished
the 2011-12 season with an overall record of 14-8.
After a
battle with the Lady Techsters, UALR hits the road for a pair of matches next
weekend. UALR takes on Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Friday (March 8) before traveling
to Monroe, La. to take on ULM.
