UALR Tennis Falls to Houston, 6-1

HOUSTON, Texas – UALR tennis (11-9) got a win at first singles from senior Veronique Luksich, but Houston (12-5) won every other match as the Trojans fell 6-1 Wednesday afternoon (March 20).

Luksich beat Elena Kordolaimi 6-2, 2-6, 10-8.

The Trojans lost a pair of three-set matches. Freshman Dané Vorster won the first set 6-1 at fifth singles before Charlotte Phillips rallied for a 6-2, 6-3 win. Senior Yana Kakovkina lost at second singles to Celia Fraser 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.

UH’s Rocio Martin Fernandez beat junior Viktoriya Plyuta 6-2, 6-2 at third singles. Freshman Kamilla Galieva lost to Maja Kazimieruk at fourth singles 6-0, 6-2. Sophomore Michaela McShane lost 6-0, 6-0 lost to Dionne Sanders at sixth singles.

The Trojans lost a trio of heartbreakers in doubles action. Vorster and freshman Christel Amsallem lost 8-7 (6) at second doubles. Galieva and Plyuta at third doubles and Luksich and McShane at first doubles fell by identical 8-6 scores.

UALR returns to action next Wednesday (March 27) in its first match of the season at the Rebsamen Tennis Center. The Trojans take on Harding at 1 p.m.
