Tennis Falls in Quarterfinals of SBC Tournament to #60 North Texas, 4-0

LAFAYETTE, La. – UALR tennis (15-10) lost a close doubles point to #60 North Texas (16-5) and the Mean Green won the first three singles matches that finished as the Trojans fell in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, 4-0.

Despite the score, UALR led in two of the unfinished singles matches.

The day began in doubles where the Trojans lost the point in a heartbreaker. Kseniya Bardabush and Franziska Sprinkmeyer of North Texas beat freshman Christel Amsallem and sophomore Dané Vorster (4-5) 8-6 at second doubles. Junior Viktoriya Plyuta and freshman Kamilla Galieva (3-2) lost to NT’s Dane Joubert and Ilona Serchenko at third doubles, 9-8 (3).

The first doubles match between senior Veronique Luksich and sophomore Michaela McShane (9-10) and the Mean Green’s Barbora Vykydalova and Valentina Starkova did not finish with the Trojans holding an 8-7 advantage.

In singles play, Vorster (10-13) fell to Serchenko at fifth singles 6-1, 6-2. Senior Yana Kakovkina (11-9) came up short to Barbora at second singles, 6-2, 6-3. Galieva (16-8) lost a pair of 6-2 sets at third singles to Starkova to clinch the win for the Mean Green.

In the three unfinished singles matches, UALR was either leading or tied. Plyuta (12-10) was up a set, 7-6 (1-3) over Sprinkmeyer at fourth singles. At first singles, Luksich (14-7) was up a set, winning the first frame 7-6 (6) over Bardabush.

At sixth singles, Amsallem (10-6) and Agustina Valenzuela split the first two sets with McShane winning the first 7-5 before Valenzuela bounced back and took the second 6-1.

For the season, all seven players reached double-digit wins for the Trojans. UALR was led by Galieva’s 16-8 record, followed by Luksich’s 14-7 record at first singles all season.
