TEXARKANA, Ark. – Former UALR men’s golfer Nick Zimmerman and current Trojan Tyler Reynolds are near the top of the leaderboard at the Arkansas State Golf Association Men’s State Amateur Championship at Texarkana Country Club. Zimmerman enters the final round four strokes off the pace at 2-under par while Reynolds is six shots off the lead at even par through two rounds of play.
Zimmerman earned his position by turning in back-to-back rounds of 1-under 71 on Thursday and Friday. After posting a double bogey on his first hole of the tournament on Thursday, Zimmerman bounced back with an eagle on the par-5 second. He added four more birdies over the course of day one. Zimmerman totaled three birdies in round two, including one on the par-4 18th to close his second round.
Reynolds carded a 1-over 73 on Thursday before rebounding with a 1-under 71 Friday to get back to even par. He started the event hot, totaling four birdies over his first nine holes to get to 3-under at the turn of round one. Two bogeys and a double on the back nine left him at 1-over heading into Friday. In round two, Reynolds racked up three straight birdies on holes 11-13 to help him finish at 1-under.
Both golfers are chasing Jens Talbert and Seth Garner, who are tied for the lead at 6-under par.
Reynolds tees off at 10:48 a.m. on Saturday while Zimmerman is set to go off at 11:15 a.m.
