Dr. Jan Dannaway
Position: Academic Advisor

Dr. Jan Dannaway brought a wealth of experience with him when he joined the athletic department in 2004. Dr. Dannaway has worked in a variety of capacities on the UALR campus for 30 years. He first joined the university as supervisor of student aid in 1975, and was promoted to acting assistant dean of students in 1977. He was given the post permanently in 1980, and stayed there until 1994, when he became a student development specialist working with incoming students. He remained in that position for 10 years before moving to the athletic department in 2004.

Dr. Dannaway has a bachelor's degree in physical education and recreation and a master's in guidance and counseling, both from the University of Mississippi. He has a doctorate in student personnel and counselor education and a doctoral minor in physical education from Mississippi StateUniversity. Dannaway's dissertation was titled A Comparison of Self-Concept and Personality Variables of Students Who Are Elected Officers with Those of Non-Officers. Dr. Dannaway played baseball for Ole Miss and is a current member of the M Club for Rebel letterwinners.

Dr. Dannaway is married to Sandra, who is director of records and registration at UALR. They have two children -- Doug (married to Carrie), a neonatologist and an assistant professor of pediatrics at Children's Hospital of Oklahoma and Steve (married to Teresa), an attorney and president and chief technical officer of creativeanswer.com -- and two granddaughters, Shannon and Kaylin, one grandson, Tyler.
