Wyn Norwood
Head Coach

UALR Director of Golf/Head Men's Golf coach Wyn Norwood begins his 20th year at UALR in 2011-12, and his 18th season coaching the Trojans. A five-time Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year, Norwood has led UALR to four Sun Belt Championships and coached three SBC individual medalists.

A 2001 inductee into the Arkansas Golf Hall of Fame, Norwood came to UALR prior to the 1992-93 season to launch the men's and women's golf programs. The men's golf program was returning from a four-year hiatus after being discontinued following the 1987-88 season, while the 1992-93 campaign marked the inaugural season of women's golf at UALR.

Norwood, who spent the first 13 years of his UALR career as the head coach for both the men's and women's golf programs, wasted little time in making his presence felt at UALR, receiving the Sun Belt Coach of the Year award for both men's and women's golf in 1994. The 1994 Coach of the Year awards marked the first of five Norwood has won, as he was also named Women's Coach of the Year in 1998 and 1999, and Men's Coach of the Year in 2001.

Norwood's guidance has led the Trojans to four Sun Belt Conference championships, with the women's team claiming back-to-back titles in 1998 and 1999, and the men's squad winning consecutive championships in 2000 and 2001.

In 2003, Norwood was named director of golf at UALR. He stepped down as head coach of both programs following the 2004-05 season to become the Associate Athletic Director for Development, but returned to the coaching ranks in 2007-08 after a two-year hiatus.

He has coached a total of 19 men and 23 women who have received All-Sun Belt Conference accolades, as well as three Sun Belt Conference individual champions - Daniel Fox (1999), Maria Jose Hurtado (2000) and Patrick Sullivan (2005). In the summer of 2011, Norwood had the honor of coaching the USA men's golf team at the 2011 World University Games in Shenzen, China.

Norwood's own athletic history is also quite impressive. A two-sport star as an undergraduate at Arkansas Tech University, he was named all-conference in golf three times and all-conference in football twice. While serving as a Navy pilot in the military from 1967 until 1972, Norwood was the All-Navy Golf Champion.

He has twice won the Arkansas Amateur State Golf Championship and has also been selected as the Arkansas Amateur Golfer of the Year on two occasions.

Norwood has served as President of the Arkansas State Golf Association, the Southern Golf Association and the Mid-South Golf Association, and for 13 years he served as a committee member with the United States Golf Association.

He was selected for 13-consecutive years as captain of the Arkansas Cup Team and also was selected as the captain of the 1995 U.S. team in the Simon Bolivar Cup in South America.

Norwood and his wife Bridgett, UALR women's golf coach, were married on June 22, 2000.
