Wikstrom Tied For First; Trojans Third At Chip-N-Club Invitational

LINCOLN, Neb. The UALR women’s golf team sits third at Nebraska’s Chip-N-Club Invitational after two wet rounds behind the strong play of junior Sara Wikstrom. A two-time All-Sun Belt selection, Wikstrom is one-over par after 36 holes and currently shares the lead with Texas State’s Linn Gustafsson heading into Tuesday’s final round.

 

In the Trojans’ first event of the season, Wikstrom battled poor scoring conditions to card a 72 and a 71 on the opening day to finish with a one-over par 143 total at the 6,079-yard, par-71 Woodland Hills Golf Club. Led by Wikstrom, the Trojans find themselves third in the 19-team field with a 608 total (303-305) –10 shots off current leader Texas State (301-297 – 598). Kansas State trails the Bobcats by a stroke, sitting second with a 599 total (297-302).

 

UALR junior Anita Ojeda opened the event with a 151 total (73-78) and sits 13th in the 100-player field after 36 holes. Sophomore Mallory Fraiche finds herself in a tie for 25th place with a 156 total (76-80).

 

Co-leaders Wikstrom and Gustafsson take a one-shot lead over Kansas State’s Kali Quick (72-72) into the final round, with Missouri State’s Jenna Buckwalter fourth on the leader board with a 147 total (74-73). Gustafsson accounted for the lowest round of the day, firing a one-under par 70 in the second round.

 

Tuesday’s final round begins with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
