SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - A pattern quickly emerged for the Trojans of winning the first set, dropping the next two winning the fourth, but that also held true as UALR also lost both fifth sets.

In the first match of the day, UALR (2-3) fell short as it lost to Oral Roberts (3-2) 20-25, 25-19, 25-22, 20-25, 15-6. The Trojans lost the nightcap to Austin Peay (2-5) 28-30, 25-20, 30-28, 21-25, 15-13. It evens the season series with the Lady Govs as UALR won in five sets last week.

Sophomore setter Marleen de Zoete registered a career day. After a double-double with 46 assists and 10 digs against the Golden Eagles, she finished the day with a career-high 71 assists against Austin Peay, the first Trojan to accomplish that feat in almost six years.

Classmate Edina Begic continued her impressive start to the season with two more double-doubles, going for 21 kills and 14 digs against ORU while recording a career high in digs (26) and season high in kills (26) against APSU. Senior Eva Xie added a career high of 21 kills against the Lady Govs.

Senior Emily Pepperman matched her career-best 30 digs against Austin Peay while classmate Daniele Souza Moura added 12 blocks on the day, including a career best seven blocks against the Lady Govs.

In the first match for Oral Roberts, Laura Taylor narrowly missed the rare triple-double with 49 assists, 10 digs and eight kills. Sheina Fernandez added 17 kills and seven blocks.

UALR controlled the first set and won by five before Oral Roberts tied the match with a six-point triumph in the second. It was a game of runs in the third set, with ORU having the last one to take a 2-1 lead. With the set knotted at 16, the Golden Eagles Fernandez and Joana Gruber tallied kills and a Trojan attack error put ORU up by three. After a pair of sideouts, UALR went on a 5-1 spurt to take the slim 22-21 lead thanks in part to two kills from Begic and another by Xie.

Despite the comeback, the Golden Eagles got the last laugh by finishing the set on a 4-0 run to take a 2-1 lead. Tatum Freedan tied the match with a kill and then a Brun Silva kill, a Taylor Ace and a Begic error gave ORU the 2-1 lead.

In the fourth, UALR used a .323-.108 hitting advantage to never trail and tie the match. With the set tied at 11, a kill by de Zoete and Begic sandwiched around an assisted block by Begic and Hodzic put UALR up three. The Trojans never led by less two the rest of the stanza to tie the match.

In the deciding set, ORU jumped up 3-0 lead and increased the lead to win the final frame by nine.

Against Austin Peay, the Trojans used a stellar fourth set again to tie the match and send it to a fifth stanza for the second time in as many weeks against the Lady Govs. But Austin Peay was able to turn the tables for a 15-13 win.

Four different Lady Govs reached double-digits in two categories, led by 22 kills and 16 digs by Jada Stotts and 59 assists and 20 kills by Cami Fields.

UALR survived in the first set in what was the longest frame of the year (until the third). With the set tied at 22, a Begic kill and APSU error gave two chances for the Trojans on set point. However, APSU answered with a Laura Henderson kill and a Stotts and Henderson assisted block to tie the match at 24. After splitting the next eight points, the Trojans triumphed 30-28 with kills by Hodzic and Xie.

Set two saw APSU race out to a six-point lead and hold on to tie the match with a 25-20 win.

Set three was another 30-28 barn-burner, but with Austin Peay coming out on top. UALR led 23-21 before a mini-run put Austin Peay on set point. A block by Souza Moura and another Lady Gov attack error put UALR its own set point, 25-24. APSU scored two more, but Begic answered with a pair of kills to put the Trojans up 28-27. In turn, the Lady Govs answered with three points to end the set and take a 2-1 lead.

In was UALR's turn for the big run to take the fourth set and tie the match. Down 21-20, Hodzic tied the match with a kill and Pepperman's serve took care of the rest. A pair of errors and a Souza Moura kill put UALR on set point. Pepperman shut the door with an ace and tie the match.

UALR jumped out to a 9-6 lead in the fifth, but APSU fired back with a 7-0 run to take the four-point lead. A pair of kills by Begic and one by Souza Moura brought the Trojans within one, but an assisted block put APSU on set point. Both teams ended the set with sideouts as UALR dropped a heart-breaking 15-13 decision.

UALR returns to action tomorrow as it looks to even its record against the host Missouri State Bears. First serve is set for noon.
