AUSTIN,
Texas
- Senior Demond Burns placed fifth
in his heat and 23rd overall with a time of 21.01 on Friday,
qualifying him for the semifinals of the 200-meter dash on Saturday at the NCAA West
Regional on the University of Texas Campus. Burns will be the seeded ninth in
the second heat in the semifinals on Saturday.
With three heats total, the top three from each as well
as the next three best times will move on to the NCAA National Championships in
Des Moines, Iowa.
Junior Taron
Dunn placed 41st overall in the preliminaries of the triple
jump. Dunn's top jump of 14.43m left him placed him eighth in his flight, with
Arizona State's Chris Benard taking the top overall spot with a jump of 16.73m.
Junior Jason Belt
will compete in the prelims of the discus throw on Saturday. Belt's qualifying
throw of 52.85m seeds him 11th in Flight One. Each of the three
flights includes 16 throwers, with the best overall 16 moving on to the semis,
and then the top 12 from the semis advancing on to the National Championships.
