NEW ORLEANS, La. - UALR senior Jason Belt has been named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Track and Field Team. Belt was one of 431 honorees across the country, a group that represents the sport's best in both athletics and academics.

As a junior, Belt qualified for the NCAA West Preliminaries in Austin, Texas, after finishing third at the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships with a toss of 52.44m in the men's discus throw. The Council Bluffs, Iowa-native went on to place 10th in his flight and 37th overall with a toss of 50.35m at the NCAA Preliminaries.

Belt's time at the West Prelims ended a very successful junior season that saw him named the SBC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week (April 25) and move into second place on UALR's all-time list in the shot put (15.37m), discus throw (52.85m) and hammer throw (53.68m). In addition to his third place finish in the discus throw at the SBC Outdoor Championships, Belt also placed ninth in the men's hammer throw and 12th in the shot put.

A criminal justice major, Belt produced a perfect 4.00 GPA in the Spring 2012 semester and sports a 3.60 cumulative GPA.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
