RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech (18-22) scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh and outhit UALR 13-to-5 on its way to an 11-2 victory over the Trojans (20-20) on Tuesday night. Senior Sean Bignall went 2-for-4 in the loss and set a new UALR single-season record by hitting his 16th home run in the top of the eighth.
Louisiana Tech held a slim 2-1 lead after five innings, but scored nine runs over the next two innings to earn a season sweep of the Trojans. The Bulldogs capitalized on two Trojan errors to score three unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth and take a 5-2 lead, and then erupted for six runs in the seventh - fueled by a three-run homer by Bre'shon Kimbell.
Ryan Gebhardt was one of three players to enjoy a multi-hit effort in the win, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. Austin Hedges added a 2-for-4 performance with one RBI, while Sam Alvis went 2-for-3 at the plate and scored three runs.
Trevor Peterson (3-4) picked up the win by holding the Trojans without a hit over 4.0 shutout frames in relief of starter Chris Sadberry, who allowed three hits and an unearned run over 3.0 innings.
UALR junior Ethan Schlechte (2-2) was saddled with the loss after surrendering eight hits, four runs (one earned) and three walks over 5.1 innings. Four UALR relievers combined to allow seven runs (six earned) over the final 2.2 innings.
UALR returns to action this weekend (April 27-29) when it welcomes Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns to Gary Hogan Field for a three-game set. First pitch for Friday's series opener is slated for 6 p.m.
