MARTIN, Tenn. - Senior Sean Bignall went 4- for-5 with six RBI and hit his team-leading fourth home run of the season on Saturday, as UALR (7-3) topped UT Martin (3-8) by a score of 12-4 at Skyhawk Park. Bignall was one of four UALR players with multiple hits on the day, while junior right-hander Blake Huffman improved to 2-1 on the season after striking out seven and allowing three runs in 5.1 innings of work.

Junior Chris Burk went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI for the Trojans, while junior Myles Parma went 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Sophomore Bryson Thionnet went 2-for-4 with a run scored, as the UALR bats combined for 14 hits on the day.

UALR quickly found itself in a 3-0 hole as the Skyhawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead after three innings of play. The Trojans cut the deficit to one with a two-run inning in the top of the fourth. Bignall's first RBI of the day came on a single through the right side that scored Burk, who reached earlier in the inning on an HBP. Junior David Guarno scored the second run of the inning when he tagged on a sacrifice fly by senior Greg Garcia to make it a 3-2 game.

A three-run homer by Bignall in the top of the sixth put the Trojans on top to stay. The junior's blast down the right field line also plated Burk and Guarno, who each reached on singles to lead off the inning. The Trojans then tacked on four more in the top of the seventh when a Skyhawk error allowed Parma to come home, and a two-RBI double by Bignall made it an 8-3 game. Bignall scored later in the inning on a passed ball to give UALR a six-run cushion.

After UT Martin scored one in the bottom of the seventh to pull within five, the Trojans put up three more in the top of the eighth to bring the game to its 12-4 final. An RBI single by Parma brought in the inning's first run, and a two-RBI double to right center by Burk pushed the UALR lead to eight.

Junior Elliot Velasquez came on in relief of Huffman and threw 1.2 innings, giving up one run on two hits. Freshman Stephen Chandler threw 2.0 scoreless innings for the Trojans to close out the game.

Willie Frederick was handed the loss for UT Martin after giving up five runs on seven hits in 5.0 innings on the mound.

UALR and UT Martin will play the finale of their three-game series on Sunday at 1 p.m. On the hill for the Trojans will be sophomore Ethan Schlechte (0-0), while Brendan Lozupone (0-1) will get the start for UT Martin.
