LITTLE ROCK - Head coach Freddy Delgado announced the UALR soccer program collected

  Ashley Asuncion

  Galya Cohen

  Asia Kleinmeyer

  Shantel Wittke
four signed National Letters of Intent on Wednesday. The Trojans signed Ashley Asuncion (Honolulu, Hawaii), Galya Cohen (Newport Coast, Calif.), Asia Kleinmeyer (Mission Viego, Calif.) and Shantel Wittke (Tucson, Ariz.).

"Two things this recruiting class has in common are work ethic and integrity," said Delgado.  "All coaches want good players, but we stress student-athletes who not only excel on the field, but also in the classroom and in the community. Their accomplishments on the field are paralleled with their academic record, with an average ACT score of 25 and an average core GPA of 3.45. These are quality young women who, along with a very strong group of returners, will help take our program to the next level."

Below is a closer look at each of the signees:

Ashley Asuncion

Midfielder/Defender // Kamehameha Schools

Honolulu, Hawaii

Asuncion served as the co-captain during the Warriors' 2011-12 season, in which Kamehameha won the 2012 Interscholastic League of Hawaii Championship. She has played for head coach Melissa Moore as a member of the varsity soccer team since her sophomore year.  In club soccer, Asuncion has played for Leani '94 Premier Soccer Club since 2005. Off the field, she is a member of Kamehameha's Honor Roll.

Delgado on Asuncion: "Ashley is a smart, versatile player. She has a smooth, technical ability and the tactical awareness to play as a central midfielder, outside defender or central back. She has a quiet demeanor off the field, but definitely makes an impact on the field."

Galya Cohen

Forward // Tarbut V'Torah Community Day School

Newport Coast, Calif.

Playing for head coach Walid Khoury at Tarbut V'Torah Community Day School, Cohen currently leads the Lions in scoring as they prepare for the California Interscholastic Federation playoffs. She was recently named a First Team All-League selection for the fourth-straight year, and has served as the captain of the TVT varsity soccer team in each of her years with the Lions. Cohen played her club soccer with Slammers FC, helping them to the 2011 Surf Cup Championship. Off the field, she is a member of the Junior Statesmen of America and the O Ambassador Program.

Delgado on Cohen: "Galya brings an excellent attacking mentality. She can beat defenders with physical, hard-working play, but she can also beat players just as easily with skill and deception. We are counting on her to contribute in all areas of the attack."

Asia Kleinmeyer

Defender // Tesoro HS

Mission Viego, Calif.

A senior at Tesoro HS, Kleinmeyer plays for head coach Nick Schofield and was named the Titans' Defensive Player of the Year in 2010. A two-sport athlete, she was also named the track team's Freshman of the Year in 2008 and Sprinter of the Year in 2010. Kleinmeyer played her club soccer most recently for Slammers FC (2009-12). Previously, she'd enjoyed stints with United FC (2007-09) and West Coast FC (2003-07). Off the field, she is a four-time scholar athlete (2009-12) and four-time member of the Superintendent Honor Roll (2009-12).

Delgado on Kleinmeyer: "Asia is a physical, tough, hard-nosed defender. She has all the physical tools needed to be an excellent defender in the Sun Belt Conference. She is good in the air, has ability to get up and down the sideline and can individually shut down an opponent."

Shantel Wittke

Goalkeeper // Sahuaro HS

Tucson, Ariz.

Currently in her senior year at Sahuaro HS, Wittke has led the Cougars to three-straight regional championships and one state runner-up finish (2008-09) in her first three seasons. Playing for head coach Dave Kruszewski, she has compiled 25 shutouts over the past two years and broke her own school record for shutouts in a season when she posted 14 during the 2010-11 campaign. Most recently, Wittke played club soccer for the Sabino Vista (2008-11) under her mother and head coach Jaclyn Wittke. She also enjoyed stints with the Randolf Soccer Club (2007) and Freedom Soccer Club (2002-06). Off the field, Wittke is an active member in her church and is a member of the National Honor Society.

Delgado on Wittke:  "Shantel was a great find for us. She has an excellent attitude, strong work rate and an incredible range. She has been a rock during her high school career and we expect her to continue the tradition of excellent goalkeepers."
