LITTLE ROCK - Head soccer
coach Freddy Delgado has announced
his team's schedule for the upcoming 2012 season. The Trojans will play a total
of 18 regular season matches, including nine at home, and will play one
exhibition match at Lyon College to start the season.
In
addition to its exhibition match against Lyon, UALR's slate also features
matchups against in-state foes UCA, UAPB and Arkansas State. UAPB and reigning
Sun Belt Conference champ FIU give the Trojans a pair of opponents coming off
NCAA Tournament appearances in 2011.
The
Trojans will begin their season with a trip to Batesville, Ark., on Aug. 13 to
take on Lyon College in an exhibition match. UALR will then play its first
official match of the season at Missouri State on Friday, Aug. 17, and follow
it with a match against Austin Peay in Little Rock two days later (Aug. 19).
Western Illinois comes to town one week later (Aug. 26), while the Trojans will
travel to Oxford, Miss., to take on Ole Miss on Aug. 31 to round out the
opening month.
Early
September matchups at UCA (Sept. 5) and Louisiana Tech (Sept. 7) are followed
with back-to-back home matches against UAPB (Sept. 9) and Northwestern State
(Sept. 14) to conclude the Trojans' non-conference schedule. UALR heads north
to take on Middle Tennessee (Sept. 21) and Western Kentucky (Sept. 23) to start
league play, and then returns home for a matches against Louisiana-Lafayette
(Sept. 28) and ULM (Sept. 30) as they head into October.
UALR
hits the road again for an Oct. 5 date at South Alabama before playing at Troy
on Oct. 7. The Trojans then play consecutive home matches against North Texas
(Oct. 14) and Florida Atlantic (Oct. 18) before heading to FIU on Oct. 21. UALR
plays its final regular season match at home against in-state rival Arkansas
State on Oct. 26.
UALR
anticipates playing its home matches at the new Recreation and Sports Complex,
located at the corner of Asher and University avenues, upon its completion.
The
Trojans are coming off a 7-13 season in 2011 that saw them miss the Sun Belt
Tournament for the second straight year. UALR will return 13 letterwinners this
year, including four seniors as they try to make it back to the Sun Belt
Tournament, set for Oct. 31-Nov. 3 in Mobile, Ala.
