Vaughn Tied For Second After First Round of 2012 SBC Golf Championships

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. - UALR senior Megan Vaughn carded a one-under par 71 in the first round of the 2012 Sun Belt Conference Golf Championships on Monday and is tied for second place after 18 holes. Vaughn was one of five players to break par in the first round on the par-72, 6,264-yard Fighting Joe Course at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at the Shoals.

In search of its ninth-consecutive conference championship, Denver leads the 11-team field with an even-par 288 total as three Pioneers posted a sub-par round on Monday. DU's Rachael Watton, Tonje Daffinrud and Kelly Drack all fired a 71 in the first round, while Sarah Faller represented the team's highest counting score with a three-over par 75.

Denver is seven-shots up on second-place Middle Tennessee (295) after one round, followed by North Texas (296) and Florida International (298). The Trojans are in fifth place at 14-over par 302. UALR senior Britny Brauburger is tied for 22nd place on the individual leader board at four-over par 76, followed by freshman Sofia Berglund at five-over par 77.

FIU's Katie Mundy leads the 55-player field at three-under par 69, and takes a two-shot lead over Vaughn and the Denver trio into the second round. Tuesday's competition begins at 8 a.m. with tee times off the 1st and 10th holes.
