UALR Sports Information
Release: 04/18/2012

LITTLE ROCK - UALR (13-12, 0-4) will begin play at the Sun Belt Tournament with an 8 a.m. match against No. 7-seeded Troy (10-9, 2-2) on Thursday, April 19 at the Waranch Tennis Complex in Denton, Texas. The winner of Thursday's match will take on No. 2 FIU Friday morning.

UALR enters the tournament as the No. 10 seed after finishing the regular season with a pair of wins against Harding and UMKC on April 7. The team's 13 regular season victories are the most by a UALR squad since the 2007 season.

Junior Veronique Luksich leads the team with a 16-8 overall singles mark and sports a 7-3 record over her last 10 matches. Luksich played the majority of the season's matches at the No. 2 singles spot, compiling a 10-6 record in that position before sliding into the No. 1 slot for the final five matches and going 4-1 to close the regular season. Luksich has teamed with freshman Michaela McShane to lead the Trojans with a 15-6 tally in doubles matches. The duo went a perfect 3-0 against Sun Belt teams this season, and currently finds itself on a seven-match win streak as it heads into the conference tournament.

Sophomore Viktoriya Plyuta, freshman Nina Yates and McShane each boast 12-13 records in singles play this season. Junior Yana Kakovkina sports a team-best three-match win streak in singles play. Kakovkina has put together a 10-12 record in singles this year while playing the majority of her matches at the No. 3 position.

Yates and fellow freshman Alina Kolegova have compiled a record of 8-11 in doubles matches this season. The duo has won three straight and sports a 6-4 record over its last ten matches.

Troy comes into the tournament as losers of three straight, but are 10-9 overall on the year with Sun Belt victories against Arkansas State and UALR to their credit. Four of Troy's losses came against nationally-ranked opponents, including No. 3 Florida and No. 7 Georgia early in the year.

Troy topped UALR by a 6-1 score back on March 18, taking two of three in doubles and winning all but one singles match. Luksich won the lone point for the Trojans, taking a 6-2, 6-2 decision from Lyubov Dorofeeva in the No. 2 matchup.

Karoline Grymel leads Troy with a 12-7 singles record this season at the No. 1 position. Candela Munoz Giron, playing all but two of her matches at the No. 4 spot, is 11-8 on the year. Grymel and Dorofeeva lead the team with a 12-4 mark in doubles play this season.
