ROCKWALL, Texas - The UALR swimming and diving team set
a new school record in the 800 freestyle relay in the first day at the Sun Belt
Championships at the Rockwall Aquatics Center on Wednesday. Junior Amber Kelly,
freshman Lexie Keller, sophomore Holly Myers and senior Megan Nelson finished
the race in 7:41.40, besting the previous mark (7:42.72) by nearly a full
second.
The Trojans currently sit sixth of six teams at the
conference championships with 58 total points. North Texas (110) leads the
pack, followed by Denver (101), WKU (98), FIU (90) and Florida Atlantic (78).
In its only other race of the night, UALR placed sixth
in the 200 medley relay. Sophomore Kara Raney, senior Audra Stalzer, junior
Rebecca McEachern and senior Jenna Rutecki finished in 1:48.11 to garner 26
points for UALR.
Freshman Sally Lee finished 11th overall in
the 3-meter diving competition. Lee scored a 188.95 to collect six points for the
Trojans.
Tomorrow's preliminary action will begin at 11 a.m. with the 500
freestyle relay. Finals will begin at 6 p.m.
