JR Boling Signs With Wichita Wingnuts

WICHITA, Kan. - Former UALR closer JR Boling has signed with the Wichita Wingnuts of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball. The Trojan closer for two years, Boling ended his collegiate career with 3.84 earned run average, 11 saves and a 9.4 strikeouts per nine innings average.

A native of Gladstone, Missouri, Boling was 5-6 in two seasons with the Trojans, racking up 71 strikeouts in 68.0 innings while holding opposing hitters to a .244 batting average. He led the Trojans with a 3.53 ERA and three saves in his first season at UALR in 2009, and followed that up with a 3-3 record and eight saves his senior year. In 2010, Boling held opposing hitters to a .234 batting average and totaled 23 strikeouts against just four walks over 24.2 innings.

Former Trojan Adam Champion, a 24th Round draft pick of the Houston Astros, is also playing professionally this summer. The Evansville, Ind.-native is currently pitching for the Tri-City ValleyCats of the Class A Short-Season New York-Penn League.
