SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The UALR men’s golf team finished 11th at the 24-team Wyoming Cowboy Classic on Tuesday, following up Monday’s opening-round four-over par 284 total with scores of 298 and 288 at the par-70, 7,133-yard Talking Stick Golf Club.
Senior Sebastian Gunnarsson was the top finisher for UALR, tying for 36th place with an eight-over par 218 total (72-74-72). Gunnarsson was followed by junior Linus Gillgren (73-74-72) and freshman Nicklaus Benton (69-75-75) at nine-over par 219.
Cal State Northridge closed out the event with a five-under par 275 in the final round to finish at one-over par 841 and earn a nine-stroke victory over second-place San Diego (850). The Trojans finished with a 30-over par 870 total at the 54-hole event, just five shots back of seventh place.
San Diego’s Gunner Wiebe and CSUN’s Jeff Freund entered the final round tied atop the leader board at three-under par, but Wiebe fired a four-under par 66 over the final 18 holes to capture medalist honors. Wiebe finished at seven-under par 203 (67-70-66), two shots up on Freund at five-under par 205 (68-69-68).
UALR returns to action April 12-13 at the Red Wolves Classic in Jonesboro, Ark.
