JONESBORO, Ark. – UALR senior Sebastian Gunnarsson fired a seven-under par 65 in the opening round of the 2010 Red Wolf Classic on Monday and leads the field with an eight-under par 136 total after 36 holes. Gunnarsson followed up his tournament record-tying 65 with a 71 in the second round, helping the Trojans tie for third place after two rounds at the 18-team event.
Gunnarsson tied the tournament record for lowest round by making six birdies, one bogey and an eagle at the par-5, 506-yard fifth hole on the way to his seven-under par 65 (32-33) at the 6,565-yard, par-72 RidgePoint Country Club.
Gunnarsson takes a two-stroke lead over Central Arkansas’ Steven Lecuyer (68-70 – 138) into Tuesday’s final round, followed by a three-way tie for third place at five-under par 139. Competing as an individual, UALR freshman Ethan Searson is tied for 10th place at two-under par 142 (72-70) after firing a 70 in the second round.
Central Arkansas leads the team standings with an 11-under par 565 total through 36 holes after firing an eight-under par 280 in the second round. Stephen F. Austin sits seven shots back of UCA at four-under par 572 (283-289), followed by UALR (286-290) and Middle Tennessee (287-289) at even-par 576.
