Gillgren, Velazquez Named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars

LITTLE ROCK - UALR seniors Linus Gillgren and Felipe Velazquez were named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars on Thursday by the Golf Coaches Association of America. The GCAA honored a total of 119 Division I student-athletes, each of which posted a stroke-average under 76.0 and achieved a grade point average of 3.2 or above.

Gillgren ended the 2009-10 season ranked seventh in the Sun Belt Conference with a team-best 72.61 scoring average. A native of Onsala, Sweden, he recorded seven top-20 finishes during the season and picked up his first collegiate victory with a six-under par 210 total at the Connecticut Cup. An economics major, he closed out the year by tying for third place at the 2010 Sun Belt Conference Championships and sports a 3.78 cumulative GPA.

A native of Caracas, Venezuela, Velazquez is pursuing an economics degree and sports a 3.74 cumulative GPA. He recorded three top-20 finishes during the 2009-10 season and ended the year with a 74.97 scoring average. He tied for 12th place at the Connecticut Cup and earned a share of 14th place at the Purple and Red Invitational with a season-low 217 total.

To be eligible for the All-America Scholar team an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke-average under 76.0 at the Division I level, and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
