COLUMBIA, Mo. – The UALR women’s golf team finished sixth at the 18-team Johnie Imes Invitational on Tuesday, led by top-10 finishes from seniors Mallory Fraiche and Daniela Vial. Fraiche tied for fourth place with a nine-over par 225 total, while Vial earned a share of ninth place with a 227 total.
The Trojans were in third place after 36 holes thanks to a 299 in the second round, but fell to sixth after closing out the event with a 312 at the 6,204-yard, par-72 Club at Old Hawthorne. Fraiche led the Trojans with a four-over par 76 in the final round to finish in a tie for fourth at nine-over par 225 (74-75-76). Vial tied for ninth with an 11-over par 227 total (74-74-79).
Tulsa sat atop the team standings after each of the first two rounds, but ended up losing to Wisconsin by four strokes after carding a 306 in the final round. The Badgers posted a 301 in the final round to finish at 908 for the tournament and edge Tulsa (912) by four strokes.
The Golden Hurricane did manage one title, however, as Tulsa’s Kristina Merkle captured medalist honors despite carding a 79 in the final round. Merkle finished at six-over par 222 (69-74-79) to earn a one-shot victory over Missouri’s Michelle Morgan (79-71-73) and Wisconsin’s Molly Schemm (72-74-77).
UALR returns to action Oct. 26-27 at the Palmetto Intercollegiate in Kiawah Island, S.C.
