NEW ORLEANS, La. - The UALR Trojans tennis team ended their 2010 spring season this morning as they fell 4-0 to the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders in the first round of the Sun Belt Tournament being played at the University Tennis Center on the campus of the University of New Orleans.

With the victory, Middle Tennessee advances to take on North Texas in the second round Friday morning. Meanwhile, the Trojans end their season with an overall mark of 11-13.

UALR immediately had its back to the wall as they lost the early doubles point. Marietta Bigus and Carla Nava downed Veronique Luksich and Yana Kakovkina at No. 1 doubles, 8-5. In No. 2 doubles, Rebecca Van Den Houte and Anne Weijenborg fell to Anna Djananova and Yuiri Nomoto, 8-3, giving MT an early 1-0 advantage.

From that point, the Blue Raiders got three straight set victories from the bottom of the singles lineup to secure the four points needed to advance. Taylor Coffey defeated Nathalia Garay 6-1, 6-1, Natalie Araya downed Fanny Lopez 6-3, 6-2 and Yuiri Nomoto clinched the MT victory with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-1) win over Van Den Houte.

At the top of the lineup, all Trojan competitors had either already won a set or were leading a set when the match was halted.

The Trojans, who have no seniors dotting this year's roster, look poised to continue to improve towards a successful 2010-11 season. Luksich (16-7), Lopez (12-10) and Van Den Houte (14-8) are three players that finished with individual records above .500 and should lead the charge going into next season. In addition, the entire group that finished with a doubles record of 37-33 is set to return. The 37-33 doubles record marks the first winning doubles record for UALR since the 2007 season when the Trojans finished with a record of 48-29.
