The UALR Department of Athletics exceeded expectations with the first annual SpectacUALR on Oct. 8, raising over $180,000 in support of Trojan student-athletes. Nearly 500 people showed up at the Jack Stephens Center as Mrs. Annette Fisher was honored for her longtime support of Trojan athletics.
The first-annual SpectacUALR was made possible through the efforts of the SpectacUALR committee, led by chairmen Cortney Beebe and Jane Yocum, and corporate sponsors Windstream and 2B Partners. The event raised $100,000 in sponsorship and ticket sales, and $80,000 through live and silent auctions in tribute to Mrs. Fisher and “her children.”
“It gives me great pleasure to know the first honoree of SpectacUALR is Annette Fisher,” said UALR Director of Athletics Chris Peterson. “Annette has enhanced the lives of so many young people in central Arkansas over the years. The world is a better place because of Annette Fisher.”
The marquee item from the live auction was a 12-person golf outing with NBA legends Charles Barkley, Dan Majerle and Joe Kleine, which went for $16,000. An “Ultimate Lakers Experience” featuring a trip to Los Angeles to watch the Lakers and meet Derek Fisher went for $12,000.
A replica of the SpectacUALR honoree award presented to Mrs. Fisher will remain in the Legends Room of the Jack Stephens Center. Plans are already underway for the 2010 SpectacUALR event.
